A Swing State to Watch

Colorado is definitely a swing state to watch this election cycle. Although the DNC was held in the state's capitol city of Denver, the race for the state's 9 electoral votes is still alarmingly close. According to politico.com, Colorado is a swing state leaning slightly in favor of Obama, but the state has not favored a Democratic candidate since 1964. With this history and the attention that the media has been focusing on GOP Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, Colorado is becoming quickly becoming a key battleground state. With McCain pulling ahead in the general polls, a couple of percentage points difference may be too close for comfort in Colorado.

In the weeks ahead, both Obabama and McCain will be focusing more and more attention on this battleground state. Obama's trip to Colorado on Monday was his first since the DNC's close, but will surely be the first of many to come as the election draws near. Meanwhile, McCain has been gearing up with anti-Obama adds that will run, but has announced no immediate plans to return to Colorado as of today.
