The results of August campaign donations from Colorado are in and Obama is in the lead. The Rocky Mountain News reports that overall, at the end of August, Obama raised $1.4 million to McCain's $1.1 million. Donations statewide jumped greatly the day and day after McCain chose Palin as a running mate. While the Democratic party holds that this jump is due to the outrage that party members feel towards what they deem as a "cynical pick," Republicans claim figures jumped because Palin reinvigorated the party base and frightened the Dem challengers.
In addition to money flowing out of the state of Colorado, the campaigns are also pumping money into the state as well. Whether in the form of advertising, campaign visits, or get-out-the-vote efforts, both campaigns know that Colorado is going to be of the utmost importance in who becomes the next president of the United States. The Sun Times reports that the Obama campaigns most recent records show that on August 22 the campaign wrote a $200,000 check to the Colorado Democrats. As the campaign marches forward, the checks are sure to grow in amount and frequency.
